Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2023

We are thrilled to share the Highlights of the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion Awards. It was only three years ago that we took out the'Dark Horse' Winery of the Yearand we are delighted to add more accolades to the list. We have also retained our Five Star Red Rating.

Here are the highlights of our top scoring wines, as judged by the Halliday team, with reviews by Jeni Port.

Pucino Prosecco Vintage 2021

Classic Australian Prosecco, from the best block, expressing the one single year. A fine and floral fizz from Australia's first family of Prosecco, the pioneers.

"A different look for the popular Pucino, with a vintage release that brings added complexity and introduces a touch of savouriness. Aromas embrace a core of citrus and apple and then explore baked quince, white peach, orange peel and acacia. The 2021 vintage was a ripper in the King Valley, and there's good natural balance and texture here, together with a concentrated flavour that finishes with a thread of intriguing preserved lemon." -95 Points, Jeni Port

Fiano 2021 - SOLD OUT

Dal Zotto's fifth year working with Fiano, a wine we to love to make and drink for its richness, depth and texture.

"The fiano grape continues its takeover of our hearts and minds, with another strong performance. Pear skin, stone fruits, quince jelly and spice offer an attractive introduction to a wine that retains a strong presence in the glass, while at the same time appearing deliciously easy to get to know. Look to the texture, the spice and the downright ease with which it bewitches." -94 Points, Jeni Port

Our Fiano is a Wine Club only release and the 2022 will be available later this year.

L'Immigrante Nebbiolo 2016

An expression of and ode to the King Valley and its founders, from a close planted single vineyard site in Cheshunt. It's Nebbiolo and unmistakably King Valley.

"With each vintage, nebbiolo takes big strides in the King Valley. Here, we see the coming together of both captivating beauty and the kind of depth and power we look for in the grape. Aromatic and perfumed in rose, forest berries, black cherry and anise. The palate is charged and alive in red berries, forest undergrowth, cola, earth and leather. Those naturally high tannins are nicely controlled, coiled, waiting. Approach now, but also with the thought of further ageing." -96 Points, Jeni Port

L'Immigrante Conro Shiraz 2017

Contro is our ongoing tribute to Otto Dal Zotto, our patriarch, who has a passion for Shiraz and continues to tend to these Shiraz vines by hand himself, with love and care.

"Released as a 5yo, it takes confidence to enter this kind of winemaking territory. Bottle age brings developed characters, but here it also brings a degree of freshness and potential for further ageing. Tricky stuff. Complex, yes. Takes the shiraz grape and gives it a savoury jolt, with leather and smoked meats meets bramble, blackberry and licorice, with a just a hint of espresso. Svelte in tannins, textural and running deep in flavour, it's quite the seducer." -95 Points, Jeni Port
