Victorian Salami Festival 2025

2025 Victorian Salami Competition

For centuries, one question has plagued the people of the Mediterranean; it's a question that, for generations, has pitted countryman against countryman and sparked spirited debate across dinner tables, over neighbourhood fences and in sun-drenched piazzas. It's a question that has even followed the Italian community Down Under... Just who makes the best salami?

In a pitch battle reminiscent of the height of the Roman empire, Dal Zotto Wines and The Meat Room decided once and for all - which region is worthy of the title Il Salame Perfetto (The Perfect Salami). Will it be The North or The South?

Do you have what it takes to make Il Salami Perfetto? Are your salamis the envy of your friends? A conversation starter during canapes? Do they attract strangers off the street, following their nose? Then this could be the competition for you.

Victorian Salami Festival FAQ’s

Q: What is the Victorian Salami Festival?

A: The Victorian Salami Festival is a day where salami enthusiasts come together and celebrate their love for the art of salami making. Centered around a delicious three course lunch, with live music, and beer and Dal Zotto wines available from the Prosecco Bar. Alongside the festival we run our annual salami competition. The festival is the day we announce the winners and award them their trophies and prizes.

Q: Do I need to be a salami maker to attend?

A: No, you don’t. The festival is open for all salami lovers to attend, regardless of if you have entered the competition or not.

Q: I can't make the festival - can I still enter a salami?

A: Yes, you can. Although we highly recommend you do attend as it’s such a great way to connect with other salami lovers and share your salami tips and tricks, plus collect your prize if you are a winner, also … bragging rights!

Q: How do I enter my salami?

A: Simply download the entry form from our websiteHEREand deliver your salami with your attached entry form to your closest drop off location, Dal Zotto Wines, or My Slice of Life. If the drop off locations are too far away, you can submit your salami via post. Please do not wrap in paper, posted salami needs to be cryovaced whole salami only, do not slice. Please include ATTN: SALAMI on the outside of your package so we know as soon as it arrives.

Q:How are the salami judged?

A:Salami judging will take place at The Meat Room on Monday 8thSeptember. All salamis are split into their relevant categories and sliced away from judges. Judges will receive a tray of salami with no other information, other than a number, as all salamis are judged “blind”. The scribe for each judge will take notes as per the judge's critiques and scores. Judges may request additional information in the form of ingredients and method used to help aid their decisions. This information is taken from the entry form submitted with each salami and is read aloud to judges by their assigned scribe. No identifiable information is given to judges, only ingredients and method used.
